For Educators

The H.E.R.O. Program seamlessly blends the sciences of protection and education.  Because teachers are a critical part of the program and because so much is currently required of them, this program is intentionally designed to be teacher friendly with minimal preparation needed. H.E.R.O. lessons are cross-curricular and satisfy Common Core ELA standards and can augment or replace existing SEL programs.

Based on best-practices, the instructional methodology includes journals, compare-contrast, narrative, application, and problem-solving.

As a part of the H.E.R.O. Program, educators will engage in professional development via the Sagence learning platform, a competency-based e-learning system. Offered in individual and blended/facilitated presentation formats, our professional development courses will teach certificated staff how to utilize H.E.R.O. skills and implement H.E.R.O. curriculum. Additionally, all certificated staff will have the option to complete a reflection essay to earn one PDU issued by Brandman University.

The H.E.R.O. Program includes a student accessibility guide designed to help educators adapt H.E.R.O. skills to students with disabilities. This guide was thoughtfully created by experts in child psychology and special education to ensure that no student is left behind during a critical incident.

Common Core standards and 21st century critical thinking concepts are incorporated in a multidisciplinary / cross-curricular design, making the curriculum adaptable for any classroom environment.

Our private school curriculum mirrors the standards of the public-school curriculum, while taking into account the sensitivity of your specific school family and their beliefs, practices, and priorities.

The H.E.R.O. After-School Program is specifically designed to teach students in a more simple, condensed, and interactive format. The after-school program is equally effective for religious institutions and community groups.

The vital leadership role that is required of teachers is all the more critical during a violent intruder situation. But, because danger is not contained to classrooms, the H.E.R.O. program includes tools for school-family connection. Both the school and the family will learn empowerment strategies that will keep them safe in school and beyond.

“The H.E.R.O. Program is allowing us to properly prepare our students should they be in an active shooter situation. We practice how to be ready for an earthquake and fire, but the reality is this is just as important. I couldn’t be more grateful to those who have developed this easy to teach, non-threatening curriculum that will allow my students to be safe should they ever find themselves in this situation. As a principal, this is not something anyone hopes to encounter, but it provides me with a bit of reassurance knowing my students will know how to react and what to do in this situation.”
